COVID - 19 advice for parents and carers

18th July 2021

Dear GHS community, please see information below regarding the NSW Government's announcement over the weekend and the adjustments required for Gorokan High School, as well as adjustments to transport.

This information will be emailed to parents tomorrow.

"Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Transport for NSW will be running a reduced timetable that will include changes to some school bus routes from Monday 19 July. While there has been a significant drop in students attending class in person due to learning at home in Greater Sydney, parents and carers need to consider all their travel options for students. Please plan ahead as your child’s regular school service may not be running.

Transport for NSW will continue working with the Department of Education and will monitor the network as these changes roll out. Please use your private vehicle if you can and for those essential workers needing to use the network, please plan ahead as there will be changes to your usual trip"

Thank you for your ongoing support as work to meet the Public Health Orders while also supporting all of our students.

GHS Team.

12th July 2021

We look forward to Term 3 commencing for our students online tomorrow. Our staff have been busy preparing. For parents and carers who are essential workers and can't have their student at home, we have a number of devices set up at school to provide online learning, with a limited number of staff onsite.

All students and staff need to wear masks while indoors at school, as per the Health advice. Further information is available here:

https://education.nsw.gov.au/.../schools-in-greater-sydney1

If you don't have a mask, we will provide one.

Please contact the front office for support with loaning a device, internet access or student work booklets on 43 937000.

Thank you for your ongoing support

9th July 2021

Dear Gorokan HS community,

Thank you for your patience and please see below for information relating to the week ahead.

Department of Education systems are expected to be progressively returning online from today and it is anticipated that they will be fully operational in time for the start of Term 3. We know this issue has impacted staff and community alike.

Our staff will be adhering to the Stay At Home Orders, with minimal staff onsite each day to support the online learning at school for students whose parents or carers are essential workers. In line with Health advice, all students and staff onsite will be required to wear a mask, and there will be no canteen facilities.

HSC preparation remains a focus and our staff will be in contact with their students to support them and provide information.

Our office staff will be available from Monday to direct any phone or email queries to our Wellbeing Team, Faculty Head Teachers or ICT Support to ensure access for our students.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school during the week ahead to have any concerns addressed.

As is always the case, do what can be done in your context and home environment without placing excessive stress on yourself or your family. If we can support, please reach out.

We are looking forward to a positive Term 3.

GHS Team.

COVID Update

Good Morning,

As many of you will know by now, Gorokan High School will move to a Learning from Home model for Week 1 Term 3 as per the extension of the NSW Government Stay at Home Orders.

As a school, we will be interpreting the NSW Premier's announcement, NSW Health and NSW Department of Education advice and what that means for all our students and community.

We understand that this will have an impact on our students and community and we will provide further information on the support available, as well as the details of how students will connect with learning as the week progresses.

As we finalise the plan for Gorokan High School over the coming days, it will be on the back of many positive experiences and lessons learnt during the Learning from Home phase last year. We thank you for your ongoing support and encourage you to look after one another and stay safe.

Sincerely,

Matthew Boake

Principal - Gorokan High School

Good News:

Updated NSW Department of Education COVID guidelines provide scope for practical and performance subjects to undertake HSC preparation at school (major works, performances, specialised lab equipment) where they can not be conducted from home.

For those subjects planning to do this, it will be coordinated by your teacher. Strict COVID guidelines will need to be adhered to, including the wearing of face masks by all staff and students while onsite.

For further information, please contact your subject teacher or Mrs McLean via email or online learning platform.

If you are in Year 12 and having difficulty participating in HSC preparation from home due to technology access, please email Mrs McLean to see what support is available.

We will continue to update as further information is made available.

Stay positive Year 12, you have got this!

GHS Team.

23rd June 2021

To our students, parents, carers and staff, we are thinking of you. These holidays are a well earned break and while the Stay at Home Orders issued yesterday will impact how that looks, we hope there is still a chance to refresh and recharge during the next two weeks.

As the break progresses we will provide updates on any news that will impact school business, and for now there will be no students or staff on site.

Important Information:

Year 12 tutorial sessions will be delivered online. Mrs McLean will email all Yr 12 students to provide login to Yr 12 Google Classroom. For those not already connected via online learning or email to their teacher, Mrs McLean will be able to facilitate that. Please respond to Mrs McLean's email with any Year 12 questions.

At this stage Yr 12 students are unable to access the school site for major works. We know this is important and will continue to seek advice on how we can try and facilitate this. We hope to have further information in the coming days.

While the school is closed there are still community organisations who are open to support you should you feel this would be of benefit. A couple of options are listed below:

https://www.emhprac.org.au/directory/

https://www.tnc.org.au/?m=1

Take care, and we are looking forward to Term 3 as normal and will update any further information as it comes to hand.

GHS Team.

Prioritising HSC students:
COVID-19 test results for HSC students will be prioritised by NSW Health to minimise any impact on HSC preparations.  When HSC students are getting tested, they need to advise the GP or testing clinic that they are currently doing their HSC so their test results can be prioritised.

On 2/8/2020, NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant recommended the use of face masks on public transport.  This was also recommended by the NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian.  As a number of Gorokan HS students catch public bus services to school and we certainly support this advice and the families and students who chose to do so.
